情感叙事学视域下《红楼梦》“水”意象的英译及女性情感移植

A Study of Honglou Meng: English Translations of the “Water” Imagery and Female Emotional Transplantation from the Perspective of Affective Narratology

摘要

情感叙事学为文学作品的情感解读及情感翻译研究提供了新视角.在情感叙事学视角下,结合Mona Baker的“翻译叙事观”,基于情感引发条件、情感注意力以及情感发展目标三个维度,比较霍译文、杨戴译文“水”意象的英译文,探析两种译文对于黛玉情感的再现与重构.研究表明,霍译文大多通过直译、意译法再现了“水”意象,译文不追求与原文的对等,更偏向于自然流畅的情感叙事;杨戴译文偏向于直译法,在语义层面上忠实于原文.由此表明,情感叙事学对文学文本的情感翻译及相关研究具有独特的阐释力.

Abstract

Affective narratology provides a new perspective for the emotional interpretation and translation research of literary works. This article compares the English translations of the “water” imagery in Hawkes’ and the Yangs’ translations from the perspective of affective narratology, combining Mona Baker’s “translation as narration”, based on the three dimensions of emotion-inducing conditions, emotional attention, and emotional development goals, and explores the reconstruction of Daiyu’s emotions in the two translations. Research has shown that most of the Hawkes’ translations reproduce the “water” imagery through literal and free translation. Hawkes’ translation does not pursue equivalence in the original text, but lean towards a more natural and fluent narrative. The Yangs’ translation also reproduces the “water” imagery through literal and free translation, but the overall translation leans towards literal translation and is faithful to the original text. Meanwhile, this article also demonstrates the unique explanatory power of affective narratology in literary emotional translation research, providing new ideas for related research of literary texts.
