Effects of different pyrolysis temperatures and feedstock types on biochar quality based on the application scenario for heavy metal contamination control
This study was designed to comprehensively evaluate the effects of pyrolysis temperatures and feedstock types on the biochar quality from 17 feedstocks under 600 ℃, 800 ℃ and 1 000 ℃, respectively. Based on the application potential of biochar in the remediation of heavy metal pollution, the principal component analysis was used to analyze the impact of pyrolysis temperature and feedstock type on the physicochemical properties of biochar. The core indicators of biochar were selected through correlation analysis. Subsequently, the grey relational grade (RI) was utilized to comprehensively evaluate the potential of these 51 biochars in remediating heavy metal pollution. The results showed that the feedstock types were more important on the physicochemical properties of biochar than that of the pyrolysis temperatures. The core indicators comprehensively expressing the biochar quality include biochar yield, specific surface area, H and C molar ratio, acid functional group and ash content. The results of gray relational degree (RI) comprehensive evaluation showed that the heavy metal remediation potential of biochar increased with the increase of pyrolysis temperature. The biochars from tall grass biomass pyrolyzed at 1 000 ℃ generally showed a good quality as suggested by the high RI of Bambusoideae (RI=0.697), Miscanthus lutarioriparius (RI=0.676) and Panicum virgatum (RI=0.671), respectively.
