By using the CFPS database 2010-2022, the impact of rural left-behind experiences on workers’employment situations and career path choices is explored. The study finds that: 1) Left-behind experiences negatively affect workers’ employment situations and further influence their future career choices. 2) The longer rural children are left behind, the worse their employment situation will be in adulthood. 3) The older rural children are when they were left behind for the first time, the less optimistic their adult employment prospects will be. 4) Education level can partially offset the negative impact of left-behind experiences. 5) The implementation of national policies on child development has a positive improving effect on the employment quality of workers who have left-behind experiences.
