In order to explore the effects of intercropping green manure on soil carbon pool composition and carbon pool management index in the cinnamon soil area in Northeast China, the conventional monoculture of maize (CK) as the control, maize 2∶0 monoculture (MC), maize intercropping alfalfa (MA), maize intercropping hairy vetch (MH), and maize intercropping common vetch (MP), thus five treatments were employed in this study in 2023—2024. The content and storage of soil organic carbon (SOC), easily oxidizable organic carbon (EOC), inactive organic carbon (NLOC), particulate organic carbon (POC) and mineral-associated organic carbon (MAOC) in 0-40 cm soil layer were measured. The distribution ratio of soil organic carbon and soil carbon pool management index (CPMI) were analyzed to reveal the variation characteristics of soil organic carbon content, storage and carbon pool quality under different planting patterns. The results showed that:1) SOC content and storage of intercropping green manure treatment were 2.27%-26.42% and 0.28%-32.85% higher than CK (P<0.05); 2) The content of EOC, NLOC, and MAOC in the CK treatment was 5.68%-54.69%、3.49%-28.89%、1.27%-19.14% lower than that in intercropping green manure treatment (P<0.05). The reserves of EOC, NLOC, and MAOC in intercropped green manure treatments were18.81%-112.98%、0.52%-36.13%、4.84%-29.76% higher than that in CK treatment (P<0.05); 3) Compared with CK, intercropping green manure treatment increased EOC/SOC and MAOC/SOC, while MC treatment increased POC/SOC; 4) In the 0-20 cm soil layer, the CPMI of MA treatment was 17.43% higher than that of CK (P<0.05). In summary, intercropping green manure measures is an effective measure to increase the organic carbon content of farmland soil and improve the quality of carbon pools in the brown soil area of Northeast China.
