This
paper explores how English for Specific Purposes (ESP) addresses the challenges
of globalization and specialization in the innovation of university English
teaching, with a particular focus on its educational applications in the field
of pharmacy. As an approach to English teaching tailored to specific
professional and academic needs, ESP fills the gap left by General English
(EGP) in professional communication. By analyzing the modular curriculum system
of the Foreign Languages Department at Shenyang Pharmaceutical University, the
paper illustrates how the integration of General English, ESP, and
intercultural English can enhance the professional English learning of pharmacy
students. To meet the development requirements of international talents, university
English teaching must further incorporate ESP, optimize pharmaceutical
education, and foster a close link between academia and practice.
