To investigate the suitability of soil in the Yongzhou tobacco-growing area for flue-cured tobacco cultivation and its main influencing factors, in this study, 689 surface soil samples were collected from the area. The soil's pH value, organic matter, alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen, available phosphorus, available potassium, chloride ion, available iron, available manganese, available sulfur, exchangeable calcium, and exchangeable magnesium contents were determined. Difference analysis and correlation analysis were conducted. The membership function method was used to evaluate each physical and chemical indicator, and combined with principal component analysis, a comprehensive evaluation was carried out for 7 counties in the Yongzhou tobacco-growing area. The results showed that the soil in the Yongzhou tobacco-growing area was weakly alkaline, with excessively high contents of available iron and available sulfur, and rich contents of organic matter and alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen, reaching 42.25 g/kg and 186.61 mg/kg, respectively. The results of correlation analysis revealed that the pH value was significantly positively correlated with the contents of exchangeable calcium, exchangeable magnesium, and available sulfur, and significantly negatively correlated with the contents of alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen, available phosphorus, available potassium, and organic matter. The available iron content was significantly positively correlated with the available sulfur content. The contents of alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen, available phosphorus, available potassium, and organic matter were all significantly positively correlated with each other. According to the suitability evaluation results, the soil suitability in the tobacco-growing areas of all 7 counties was qualified. Lanshan county had the highest suitability, while Dao county and Jiangyong county showed a relatively significant gap compared to other tobacco-growing areas, with problems of uneven distribution of exchangeable calcium and insufficient available manganese content. It was suggested that appropriate land management measures be adopted in the Yongzhou tobacco-growing area to improve the uneven distribution of exchangeable calcium and insufficient available manganese content in Dao and Jiangyong counties, thereby enhancing the suitability of their tobacco-growing soil.
