To explore the effects of rhizospheric biocontrol bacteria on growth promotion, disease prevention, and quality of Salvia miltiorrhiza, in this study, six biocontrol bacteria(Paenibacillus polymyxa Pp146, Bacillus velezensis Bv1-4, Pseudomonas jessenii Pj01-9, Streptomyces syringium SY6-10, B. haynesii CYM6-3, and S. toxytricini 136) isolated from the rhizosphere soil of S. miltiorrhiza and water(CK) were utilized for root irrigation treatments, respectively. The effects of these biocontrol bacteria on root growth parameters, root rot disease control, and the contents of 23 chemical components(including 5 tanshinones and 18 phenolic acids) in the roots of S. miltiorrhiza were systematically evaluated. The results demonstrated that the field root irrigation treatment with six biocontrol bacteria had no significant growth-promoting effect on the root length, root diameter, and the root branch number. The analysis of the fresh root weight of the plots revealed that except for isolate Pp146, the fresh root weight of the plots treated with the other five biocontrol bacteria was significantly higher than that of CK treatment. In terms of disease control, the six biocontrol bacteria exhibited a control efficacy of root rot ranging from 34.31% to 65.59% against root rot disease. Specifically, the incidence rate of root rot was significantly reduced by B. velezensis Bv1-4 and B. haynesii CYM6-3, while the disease index was significantly decreased by P. polymyxa Pp146, B. velezensis Bv1-4, P. jessenii Pj01-9, S. syringium SY6-10, and B. haynesii CYM6-3. The results of the chemical component determination indicated that B. velezensis Bv1-4 significantly promoted the contents of tanshinones(tanshinone I, tanshinone IIA, and miltirnone) and phenolic acids(protocatechualdehyde); S. toxytricini 136 significantly enhanced the accumulation of salvianolic acid B; P. jessenii Pj01-9 significantly increased the contents of caffeic acid and salvianolic acid C; and S. syringium SY6-10 significantly enhanced the content of danshensu. In conclusion, the six biocontrol bacteria strains had demonstrated significant effects on the prevention and control of root rot disease, yield improvement, and chemical component accumulation in Salvia miltiorrhiza under field conditionsf, with B. velezensis Bv1-4 demonstrating the most comprehensive effects.
