Railway container yards are an important component of the railway-led comprehensive freight hub and serve as an important lever for improving the quality and efficiency of railways' non-bulk goods logistics. The calculation of their comprehensive operation capacity is the decision-making basis for facility layout, equipment configuration, and organizational optimization. The current research on single link capabilities such as pick-up and delivery capacity and loading and unloading capacity fails to accurately reflect the comprehensive operation capacity of railway container yards due to the rhythmic characteristics of freight production. In order to reveal the impact of various production links on the comprehensive operation capacity of railway container yards, the influencing factors of comprehensive operation capacity were analyzed, and two major aspects of operation and freight transportation were considered. Specifically, a calculation method for the comprehensive operation capacity of railway container yards was proposed, covering pick-up and delivery, arrival and departure yard passage, shunting yard disassembly, station throat passage, loading and unloading line operation, yard storage, and highway collection and distribution. This paper took Xi'an International Port Station as a case study, and the effectiveness of the calculation method was verified.
