To uncover the specific role of informatization in enhancing the grain total factor productivity (TFP) of farmers, this study uses data on agricultural product cost-benefit data published by the National Development and Reform Commission (2004-2022) and the supplementary informatization survey data of grain farmers in 13 major summer grain-producing provinces (municipalities, districts) in 2023 to empirically examine the impact of informatization on grain TFP. The findings reveal that informatization significantly enhances grain TFP. The effect is more pronounced among young and middle-aged laborers. While informatization significantly improves farmers' cultivation abilities, it also widens the capability gap among farmers. Additionally, informatization positively affects labor and land productivity, and effectively boosts farmers’ income. Therefore, further advancement of informatization in agriculture with a focus on enhancing informatization levels and developing the information discernment skills of older farmers to maximize the contribution of informatization to grain TFP is essential.
