To investigate the static and dynamic mechanical characteristics of a high-strength steel and establish the Johnson-Cook constitutive model, quasi-static compression and tensile experiments were carried out using an electronic universal testing machine, obtaining the stress-strain curves, elastic modulus, and Poisson’s ratio of the material under quasi-static conditions at room temperature. Dynamic compression tests were conducted using a split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) at five temperatures ranging from 293 K to 1 073 K and four strain rates spanning from 800 s-1 to 2 100 s-1. Dynamic stress-strain curves of the material under various conditions were obtained. Finally, based on the experimental data, a Johnson-Cook constitutive model was constructed and its accuracy was verified. The results indicate that the yield stress of the material increases with the increase in strain rate, albeit at a relatively small rate, resulting in a non-significant strain rate strengthening effect. At a strain rate of 1 000 s-1, The yield stress of the material decreases significantly with increasing temperature. The stress-strain curve derived from the constitutive model aligns well with the experimental results, suggesting that the model can accurately predict the stress behavior of the material.
