To assess the spatiotemporal distribution characteristics and variation patterns of carbon sinks in the Ningxia ecosystem, as well as their responses to different climatic factors, this study uses global environment database-net ecosystem exchange (GED-NEE) and MERRA-2 datasets. A pixel-level correlation analysis is employed to calculate the correlation coefficients between NEE and multiple climate factor data to determine the impact of climate change on NEE. A univariate linear regression analysis is conducted to analyze the trend of changes in ecosystem carbon sinks/sources. Stepwise pixel regression is used to quantify the drivers of NEE variation, yielding relative contributions of different climatic factors to the ecosystem carbon sinks. The research indicates that the NEE of Ningxia is -71.38 g·m-2·a-1, with significant regional differences. The spatial distribution shows the largest variation range from -291.43 to -14.56 g·m-2·a-1, with higher carbon sinks in the southern mountainous areas and along the northern Yellow River, while the central desert regions have relatively lower ecosystem carbon sinks. There are considerable seasonal variations in NEE, with values of -81.46 to -36.87 g·m-2 in spring, -354.93 to -4.50 g·m-2 in summer, -25.66 to 61.34 g·m-2 in autumn, and -21.75 to 53.31 g·m-2 in winter. The interannual variation range of NEE is from -18.44 to 12.22 g·m-2·a-1, with 14.35% of the regions showing an increasing trend in ecosystem carbon sinks. This study enhances the understanding of the carbon sequestration potential of terrestrial ecosystems concerning climate and vegetation cover changes, laying a foundation for accurately assessing the stability of ecosystem carbon sinks and their role in carbon neutrality.
