Aiming at the problems of brittle fracture of hard metals under the action of high-speed projectiles and the decline in the penetration performance of armor-piercing projectiles caused by the Taylor rod effect of elastoplastic materials,a multi-interface armor-piercing projectile core structure that transformed continuous cores into discontinuous cores was designed based on the one-dimensional stress wave reflection and transmission theory(the core head is alternately composed of tungsten cones and aluminum cones). Firstly, it was verified through theoretical calculation that the stress intensity after passing through the tungsten-aluminum and aluminum-tungsten interfaces of the stress wave decreased to 51.3% of the initial value.Secondly, the finite element simulation was carried out using Lsdyna software to comparatively study the stress propagation, kinetic energy and velocity changes of discontinuous armor-piercing cores and continuous armor-piercing cores during the penetration of ceramic-steel composite armor. Finally, the orthogonal analysis method was utilized to study the influence of the cone Angle at the head of the discontinuous armor-piercing core, the thickness of the cone at the head, and the thickness ratio between each cone on the residual kinetic energy of target penetration. The research results show that the stress of the discontinuous armor-piercing core is concentrated in the tungsten cone at the head during penetration, while the stress intensity in other parts is relatively low.The head of the core can remain sharp during the target firing process, and the penetration performance is significantly improved. Its kinetic energy and velocity are higher than those of the continuous armor-piercing core throughout the process. After penetration, the residual kinetic energy and residual velocity are 48.2% and 11.9% higher, respectively. The order of the influence degree of each structural parameter of the discontinuous armor-piercing core on the residual kinetic energy of penetrating the target is the cone angle of the head>the thickness of the cone of the head>the thickness ratio between each cone. The results can provide theoretical reference for engineering design of improving penetration performance of armor-piercing projectile core.
