Abstract
This study investigates the physical and mechanical properties evolution of cement paste specimens with different water-to-binder ratios (0.25, 0.35, 0.45) under three different exposure temperatures (20 °C room temperature, -20/20 °C alternating positive and negative temperatures, and -20 °C subzero temperature) after 96 h of standard curing, including 48 h of mold curing followed by another 48 h of standard curing after demolding. By employing the Wiener process, a stochastic degradation life prediction model was established for cement pastes under the two harsh environments: alternating positive and negative temperatures, and subzero temperatures. An innovative multi-index damage assessment model was proposed by integrating the analytic hierarchy process with time-dependent cumulative effects based on the observed performance evolution patterns. The results indicate that the damage-repair dynamic competition mechanism under alternating positive and negative temperature environments significantly extends the predicted life compared to subzero temperature environment. Specimens with a water-to-binder ratio of 0.35 exhibit optimal performance in both environments, with predicted lives of 3 043.2 d and 1 187.3 d, respectively. The developed comprehensive damage index effectively quantifies the progressive damage evolution of cement-based materials under complex environments, showing strong alignment with the life prediction results. This research provides a scientific basis for durability design and performance assessment of cement-based materials in plateau environments.
