自贸区设立对制造业就业水平的影响研究

The Research on the Influence of the Establishment of Free Trade Zone on the Employment Level of Manufacturing Industry

摘要

自贸区作为制度高地评估其在促进地区经济发展中起的作用具有重要意义。本文利用2005—2022年地级市层面的面板数据，采用渐进双重差分法考察了自贸区的设立对所在地制造业就业的影响。结果发现，自贸区的设立显著提升了所在地的制造业就业规模，进一步研究发现，自贸区的就业促进效应主要通过促进当地工业化水平实现。自由贸易试验区（简称自贸区）作为中国深化改革、扩大开放的重要试验田，其设立旨在通过制度创新，打造国际化、法治化、便利化的营商环境，吸引国内外优质资源集聚，促进贸易和投资自由化便利化。

Abstract

As a high ground of institutional innovation, free trade zones (FTZs) play a pivotal role in regional economic development. This study employs panel data from prefecture-level cities (2005–2022) and the stepwise difference-in-differences method to examine the impact of FTZ establishment on manufacturing employment. Results demonstrate that FTZs significantly expand local manufacturing employment. Further analysis reveals that this employment boost primarily stems from enhanced industrialization levels. Functioning as China’s key testing ground for deepening reforms and opening-up, FTZs are designed to foster an internationalized, rule-of-law-based, and business-friendly environment through institutional innovation. Their mission is to attract global resources and facilitate trade and investment liberalization.
